Bird Flu Cases Rise in Colorado, Prompting Poultry Culling

Workers Sickened, Millions of Birds Destroyed

Five cases of the highly contagious bird flu virus have been identified among workers tasked with culling poultry at a farm in northeast Colorado.

The sickened workers, along with the farm's poultry, have tested positive for the H5N1 strain of the virus. To contain its spread, over 17 million birds at a commercial egg operation in nearby Weld County will be euthanized.

The surge in human cases of bird flu among agricultural workers has doubled the count in the United States. Officials have emphasized the need for poultry farmers to adhere to strict safety measures to minimize risk and prevent further transmission.
