The Two Darryls Never Spoke Until the Final Episode
The on-screen brothers have kept in touch over the decades
Actor William Sanderson portrayed Larry and Darryl on the sitcom Newhart. In a recent interview, Sanderson revealed that he and his on-screen brother, Darryl Philbin, never spoke to each other during the course of the show's eight-season run.
Sanderson said that the two actors were simply "too shy" to approach each other, and that they never felt the need to break the ice.
"We just didn't talk," Sanderson said. "We were both very shy, and we never really felt the need to get to know each other. We just did our jobs and went our separate ways."
Despite their lack of communication on set, Sanderson said that he and Philbin have kept in touch over the years.
"We've seen each other a few times since the show ended," Sanderson said. "We're both still friends, and we always have a good time when we get together."
