World No. 1 John John Florence Talks Titles, Lowers and Olympic Surfing

The Hawaiian surfer reflects on his recent title win, his goals for the upcoming season and his thoughts on the Olympics.

John John Florence is the most dominant surfer on the planet. The 28-year-old Hawaiian has won two world titles and is currently ranked number one in the world. He is also a two-time winner of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational, one of the most prestigious surfing events in the world.

In a recent interview, Florence talked about his recent title win, his goals for the upcoming season and his thoughts on the Olympics.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

My goal for the upcoming season is to win another world title. I've been working hard all off-season and I'm feeling really good about my surfing.

What are your thoughts on the Olympics?

I'm really excited about the Olympics. It's a dream come true to represent my country and I'm going to do my best to win a medal.

You recently won the world title. What was that like?

It was an amazing feeling. It’s something I’ve been working towards my entire life. It was a dream come true.

What do you think of the current state of surfing?

I think surfing is in a great place right now. There are so many talented surfers and the level of competition is really high. It's an exciting time to be a surfer.

What advice would you give to young surfers?

My advice to young surfers is to follow your dreams. If you love surfing, then go for it. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Just keep working hard and never give up on your dreams.
